As a film composer, I work with directors, producers, and creatives to craft original music scores that support and enhance storytelling across film, television, video games, and other media. I approach every project with a focus on collaboration, adaptability, and strong musical storytelling.
MY JOURNEY
Andrew Thorell is an aspiring film composer focused on creating immersive, musical experiences that support and enhance the story for film, television, and video games. He is currently a student at Jessup University, majoring in music with a concentration in commercial music, with additional focus on composition, orchestration, and MIDI sequencing.
Andrew is studying under Alan Koshiyama, a master at the craft, whose own credits consist of feature films, television, and video games. Alan’s commercial partners include Disney, ABC, TBS, ESPN, PBS, Time Warner/Turner Original Productions, The Hallmark Channel, The Discovery Channel, and 20th Century Fox Atomic.
Through this training and his own project work, Andrew continues to develop a versatile musical voice grounded in both orchestral and modern scoring techniques. He is an avid fan of Steve Jablonsky’s music composition styles. This has influenced Andrew while he is developing his own versatile style of music, while drawing inspiration from other composers like Bear McCreary, Brian Tyler, and Hans Zimmer.
Andrew’s approach to scoring is rooted in storytelling since it is crucial for any media format. He aims to identify the tone of each project and translate it into music that supports the emotional experience, pacing, and character development for the audience. With a strong attention to detail and a collaborative mindset, he works to ensure that each score enhances the overall experience of the production.
